The Victims to Victors Program (Fall 2022 Series) will introduce high school students (and their parents), who have experienced trauma through exposure to homicide and family violence, to life-changing skills and constructive tools to inspire change in themselves, their communities, and the world.
We are striving to engage 160 students in this exciting and inspiring series which will consist of interactive discussions, workshops, and entertainment. Participation is limited.
V2V is a program that is designed to increase skills, confidence, knowledge and application of anger and grief management, as well as stress management and conflict resolution techniques for youth and their parents, guardians, or caregivers by completing and educational support program. The program staff support, guide, and walk with youth as they heal from trauma caused by violence so that they will stay in school, break the cycle of violence, and plan for a thriving future beyond high school. V2V is geared toward youth, ages 14-18, living in the City of Atlanta/Fulton County. The program is facilitated through AVA’s partnership with two area high schools: Maynard T. Jackson and Carver STEAM High Schools. The program includes sessions using a trauma-focused curriculum and comprehensive, victim-centered advocacy to increase violence awareness and prevention in the schools and surrounding areas.
Through the fall series, students will have interactive opportunities for participants to strengthen life skills and create goals that are more likely to result in the following:
Safer environments through prevention of youth violence and/or delinquent behaviors;
Changing the life trajectory for at-risk youth by providing comprehensive, multi-component, tertiary interventions addressing a constellation of risk factors;
Development of youth leadership groups focused on promoting equity, inclusion, violence prevention, anti-bullying, and social justice efforts; and,
Positive family support to foster a sense of belonging and trust.
Fall Workshop Cost: FREE to all Fulton County Residents (ages 14-18).
