AVA receives $50,000 to Help Reduce Gun Violence in Atlanta
Atlanta Victim Assistance, Inc. was among five local nonprofit organizations to receive grant funding from the Coalition to Advance Public Safety (CAPS) to help drive down gun violence in Atlanta. CAPS awarded AVA $50,000.
“This funding will allow us to enhance our critical programs and services as we work alongside local partners to create a safer, healthier Atlanta,” said AVA Executive Director Shontel Brunson-Wright.
CAPS is an organization led by four national Black-led technical assistance providers—Cities United (CU), Community Based Public Safety Collective (CBPS), The Health Alliance for Violence Intervention (HAVI), and National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (NICJR) — that have been supporting cities across the nation in their efforts to reduce community violence. In addition to AVA, CAPS awarded grants to Circle of Safety, H.O.P.E. Hustlers: A Violence Prevention Initiative, Wii Care ATL, and Girassol Wellness. The total grant funding awarded was $500,000.
“We are grateful to CAPS for recognizing the importance of AVA’s work, and I’m honored to be among these other nonprofits that are committed to creating a future where all Atlanta residents can live free from violence,” Wright said.
